Welcome to Small Groups!
The "heart" of our Connect Response, one of The Seven Responses of a Faithful Follower of Jesus Christ, is small group ministry. Small groups of people meeting in homes, serving on teams, and/or being together around a specific affinity are the places where we believe people best experience authentic Christian community. We have a beautiful description of authentic Christian community in the Bible (i.e. Acts Chapter 2:42-47). From this, we draw our understanding of how we can live in community today:
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all people. And, the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
In community, we give the gift of our presence to one another. In community, we come to know each other and are known. As we share our lives, we:
- begin to care for one another,
- discover that we have many things in common, and
- become a community, characterized by love, forgiveness, and accountability.
At Faith Church, we offer a variety of Small Groups:
- Home Groups - Usually meet in homes of group participants. Primary purpose is building community, one with another, but, always have biblical, prayerful, and mission focuses as well.
- Study Groups - Primary purpose is to learn and apply Scripture to life, but definitely have community, relational, and prayerful elements as well.
- Ministry Teams - Primary purpose is to do a form of ministry, service, but build community, apply Scripture, and pray as they serve together.
- Seeker Groups - Primary purpose is to explore the Christian faith. These groups are composed primarily of people who are still exploring Christianity, and want to learn more about it and the person of Jesus Christ.
- Recovery Groups - Primary purpose is to receive support and recover from conflict, loss, and/or addictions. These groups focus on reconciliation and healing experiences.
