Faith Reformed Church is a part of the Reformed Church in America (RCA).
The roots of the RCA were established on this continent 150 years before the Revolutionary War.
The word Reformed comes from the Protestant Reformation which swept across Europe in the mid 1500s under the leadership of such men as Martin Luther and John Calvin. Calvin's reformation at Geneva, Switzerland, spread to many countries, including Scotland (where it became the Presbyterian Church) and the Netherlands (where it became our ancestor, the Dutch Reformed Church).
Our history is a long and colorful one which you may enjoy learning about. The Dutch Reformed Church established its first congregation in New Amsterdam in 1628. Although Dutch in origin, the RCA has for many decades included people of many races and nationalities in its congregations.
The denomination currently has about 940 churches in the United States and Canada, with about 291,000 members.
In addition to the local churches, the RCA operates three colleges and two seminaries. The colleges--all liberal arts institutions with a Christian emphasis--are Central College in Pella, Iowa; Hope College in Holland, Michigan; and Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Students are trained for various types of Christian ministry at New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan.
The RCA publishes a monthly magazine, the Church Herald, which keeps the RCA family informed.
