In addition to the Bible, from which the Foundational Beliefs below are derived, Faith Reformed Church (FRC) is guided by several guiding principles. These principles are articulated via Core Values, Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and The Seven Responses of a Faithful Follower of Jesus Christ.

If after reading through these guiding principles, you find yourself wanting to learn more about FRC, please contact one of our  Church Staff Members or
Governing Board Members.

Foundational Beliefs:

  • The Holy Scriptures (comprised of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) are divinely inspired, entirely trustworthy, and constitute the only supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
  • There is one God, creator of all things, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Our Lord Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. We affirm His virgin birth, sinless humanity, miraculous power, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and personal and glorious future return.
  • Jesus Christ died in our place, as our substitute. Salvation of sinful humanity is possible only through the merits of His perfect life, His sacrificial death for our sins, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit. We are saved, not by our good works, but by grace through faith in Jesus.
  • The Holy Spirit indwells in every true believer enabling him/her to live a holy life and to love others. The Holy Spirit gives Christians spiritual gifts and empowers them to work with Him to build His Church and advance His Kingdom on earth.
  • The Church is one. It is the body of Christ and consists of all true believers--every person within whom the Holy Spirit dwells.
  • Ultimately Jesus Christ will return to judge both the living and the dead. Those who are saved will be resurrected to enjoy eternal life with God, and those who are lost will be resurrected to experience eternal separation from God.

Seven Responses of a Faithful Follower of Jesus Christ

George Barna, author, speaker, and researcher, has compiled these reflections on planning and vision:

  • "If your vision is for a year, plant wheat. If your vision is for a decade, plant trees. If your vision is for a lifetime, plant people." - Chinese Proverb
  • "Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish." - Michaelangelo
  • "The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress." - Charles Kettering
  • "Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime." - Reinhold Niebuhr
  • "Vision is the art of seeing things invisible." - Jonathan Swift
  • "My interest is in the future because I'm going to spend the rest of my life there." - Charles Kettering
  • "There is no more powerful engine driving an organization toward excellence and long-range success than an attractive, worthwhile and achievable vision of the future, widely shared." - Burt Nanus

Ministry without vision is like...

  • A cow loose in the pasture: just grazing
  • A glacier: fascinating to observe but going nowhere fast
  • A snake: ill-focused, spineless and attracted to whatever is hot
  • A rabbit: warm and fuzzy but utterly defenseless
  • A movie set: merely a facade
  • A flashlight without batteries: willing but powerless
  • A wedding without a bride: missing an essential element
  • A cadaver: stiff, predictable and lacking a discernable heartbeat
  • A car without gasoline: capable of forward movement but lacking the necessary fuel
  • A symphony without a score: lots of talent but no direction
  • A preacher who has not prepared the sermon: the intersection of arrogance and ignorance

Perhaps one or more of these statements on guiding principles and planning speak to you in such a way that you begin to understand why having them and why doing strategic planning is vital for those who want their churches to become prevailing churches in their ministry areas.

Some may ask why having core values, mission, and vision are necessary and some may question the need for doing strategic planning. Both are valid inquiries. We have guiding principles and do strategic planning because "where there is no vision, the people perish." (Proverbs 29:8)
